During the week, my friends and I went to watch Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs. There were five of us and since there is a cinema just right below our office, we decided to just watch it there. The tickets were bought for normal class.
Yes. It’s cheap. And since I’ve been constantly watching Premier Class movies (with the exception of one time whereby I went to watch GOLD CLASS with my cousins)whenever I watch movies at GSC, at least I’m saving a little bit of money as I will be going away for a trip soon.
But when the movie starts, I really wished that my friend bought the Premier Class seats instead. Well, let’s start with the seats. Obviously, the sits in the basic class cinema are not as comfortable as compared to Premier or Gold Class. I believe the price I’ve paid is justified with the comfort that I’ve enjoyed. With Premier Class, I can lay my head on the seat rather than sitting up straight (which is tiring to my shoulder). For Gold Class at GSC Signature, the RM60 I’ve paid could get me a reclining cushion chair that is adjustable. If the movie is not nice, I can just sleep. :P
Then, let’s talk about the ambience. Because of the much lower ticket fee charged, quantity matters to ensure high collection. Hence, a new movie would be located in a large cinema hall that has seating capacity of 200 to 250 people. When the hype of a movie has died down, then it will be located in a cinema that has a seating capacity of about 100 to 120 people. So you can imagine the ambience. I particularly loathe those who likes to make comments during the movie. In my experience while watching Premier Class, surprisingly no one made any comments while the movie is on. Or perhaps because of the sitting was too far apart, the whispering would been drowned by the movie. Also, since the seating is somewhat like a couple sitting, the chit chattering is significantly minimized.
Sound system: Definitely Premier Class’ and Gold Class’ sound system is much much better. You can feel the difference as compared to the normal class. I don’t know how to elaborate this. You have to try it to know the difference. Not all halls are certified by THX. But chances are all of the certified THX cinemas is designated to Premier Class and (definitely) Gold Class.
Next, extra services. Although not standardized, Berjaya Times Square’s GSC Premier Class offers food delivery service. All you need to do is walk to the counter at Premier Class ‘room’ and place your order. The staff will deliver your food and drinks to your seat right before the show starts. Please take note that this free delivery service is not provided for in GSC Signature’s Premier Class at Gardens. I’m not sure of other Premier Class cinemas. At GSC Signature’s Gold Class, you get a free complimentary blanket and a selected free drink delivered to you. However, they do offer some food of which they would charge a premium for delivery service. The Gold Class Signature food there is kind of pricey.
So, if next time any of friends wants to watch in a normal class cinema with high seating capacity, I think I would just pass.
